Name of the Police Certificate: Clearance Certificate


If you live in Eritrea


You can apply in person to the Eritrea Police Headquarters (see Special notes and considerations for complete address). You must bring:

  1. Identity card or passport.
  2. Must allow fingerprints to be taken.
  3. Two passport-size photographs.
  4. Letter requesting the certificate.
  5. Applicable fees.

If you live outside of Eritrea


You need to designate a representative with power of attorney to make the application in Eritrea to the Eritrea Police Headquarters (see Special notes and considerations for complete address) or through the nearest Eritrean Embassy. You must bring:

  1. Copy of your Identity card.
  2. Copy of your passport.
  3. Full set of fingerprints.
  4. Letter requesting the certificate from the Canadian High Commission.
  5. Applicable fees.

If you are not a citizen and live outside of Eritrea


You need to designate a representative with power of attorney to make the application in Eritrea to the Eritrea Police Headquarters (see Special notes and considerations for complete address). You must bring:

Police certificates are only available to foreign residents with a proper residence permit.

  1. Certified copy of passport and copies of visas/permits showing the period of legal residence in Eritrea.
  2. Full set of fingerprints.
  3. Two passport-size photographs.
  4. Letter from an authority requesting a police certificate.
  5. Applicable fees.

Special Notes:

Police certificates are only available to Eritrean citizens who have done national service

Police certificates will not be issued to Eritrean citizens who cannot provide evidence that they have paid a state-imposed tax that is placed on all Eritrean citizens, regardless of country of residence
